Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia (the protective layer surrounding the muscles, bones, and joints).

Please talk with Dorothy to see if deep tissue massage therapy would be beneficial for you.

Geriatric Massage

Geriatric massage therapy is designed to address the specific needs of the elderly. This type of massage for the elderly uses gentle and light application of massage techniques and can include passive stretching and a light oil or lotion to permit your muscles to be worked on without causing excessive friction to the skin.

If you have a specific health condition, you should receive permission from your physician to proceed with massage. Once you have obtained permission, be sure to specify your preference for geriatric massage when scheduling your appointment.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage therapy is a specialty massage that uses the direct heat of the stones to relax muscles, allowing Dorothy access to their deeper muscle layers. The stones have been heated to 120 degrees and are used with the traditional strokes of Swedish massage. Heated stones are left on specific points along the spine or in the palms of your hand, and even between your toes, to improve the flow of energy in your body.

The hot stones have a sedative effect that can relieve chronic pan, reduce stress, and promote deep relaxation.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release therapy is a safe and effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle, sustained pressure to the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. The use of myofascial release therapy allows Dorothy to look at each patient as a unique individual. Your one-on-one therapy sessions are oil-free, hands-on treatments during which Dorothy uses a multitude of myofascial release technique movements, self-treatment instruction, enhancement of strength, improved flexibility, and postural and movement awareness.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage therapy is intended to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. Swedish massage therapy is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, and improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.

Before and during your Swedish massage session, communication is encouraged so that your massage is customized to your specific needs.
